Information: 
BDC's Environmental Team do a lot of work around improving energy efficiency for our residents. They have a variety of grants which could help with boilers and cavity wall insulation (for example).

There are many grants which may be available for residents: Home Upgrade Grants (HUG), Energy Company Obligation Scheme (ECO), Major Housing Grants, Minor Works Assistance, Disabled Facilities Grant.

Must live in Essex. May help with food, furniture, white goods, clothes, general living expenses such as groceries, nappies, toiletries and money for pay-as-you-go fuel meters.


Fashion and Textile Children's Trust (FTCT)

Information: 
Financial grants for children (aged 18 years and under) whose parent/carer works or has previously worked for a UK fashion or textile company - for at least one year within the last 9 years.

Grants support families when they are struggling financially and can't afford to buy essential items for their children. The Trust’s criteria covers workers from fashion and textile companies such as clothes shops, fashion or textile manufacturers, fashion distribution centres, laundries and supermarkets with clothing lines, e.g. ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, etc.

Grants are available for children’s essential items, including school uniforms, clothing & shoes, beds & bedding, or essential household furniture and appliances.

Turnaround time 2-4 weeks - Grant Amount £300-£500 - Does not provide emergency help - Response time 1-5 days - Cannot help people without bank accounts.


Friends of the Elderly Grants

Information:
Grants of up to £400 (£500 for couples) for things such as:

  • Home essentials grants help with the cost of replacing everyday items in the home (white goods and furnishings), small home repairs and mobility adaptations.
  • Digital connection grants are to help older people get online and stay connected and can be used towards the cost of equipment such as tablets and smartphones as well as broadband and data costs.
  • Finacial support grants to help with unexpected bills and large costs such as utility bills, funeral costs for loved ones, moving fees etc.
  • Essential living costs grants for everyday expenses including clothing, food, medicines, books, travel to medical appointments or other activities.

Applications by professionals only who will need to register by going to their website. They state they are happy to discuss any items not listed.

Information:
GroceryAid supports people who work or have worked in the grocery industry. This includes anyone who works for a supermarket, wholesaler, manufacturer, convenience store independent grocer, petrol forecourt store or service provider to the grocery trade.

They also support businesses in the food service wholesale sector.

NewstrAid Benevolent Fund

NewstrAid helps persons, and their immediate dependants, who have been employed in newspaper and magazine distribution in the UK.

NewstrAid helps: Shop assistants, Newsagents, Street Vendors, Wholesaler Employees, Delivery Drivers, Packers, Circulation employees.

Turnaround time 1-2 months - Grant Amount £250-£3000 - Provides emergency help - Response time 2-3 weeks - Cannot help people without bank accounts.

Essex Household Support Fund:

(Until March 2024)

Peabody administer the Household Support Fund which may be used to assist with people in need with bills, cookers, white goods etc. Need to be Essex residents and do not need to be in support with outreach services. Residents can apply for up to 3 things in their categories. Not eligible for this if they receive the Cost of Living Payment through benefit payments but some discretion can be applied.

Customer Engagement Fund:

For people who are in support with Peabody Outreach currently. This can assist with obtaining ID, removal costs and possible more. This is based on individual circumstances. Peabody Outreach staff will make the referral but if you have any queries about it, you can contact the Gateway.

The Rainy Day Trust helps past and present employees of the home improvement and enhancement supply industry. Either you or your partner can have worked in the industry, and you should have worked in any part of that industry for 1 year. This must be for one company.

This includes people who have worked in the UK in Builders Merchants, Cookshops, DIY shops and outlets, hardware stores, garden centres, pottery/glass, manufacturers and distributors or as retailers.

Turnaround time 1-5 days - Grant Amount £500-£1,000 - Provides emergency help - Response time 1-5 days - Can help people without bank accounts

Information:
One-off grants to registered nurses and midwives, Health Care Support Workers, Nurse Associates and Nursing Apprentices. Nurses and midwives with any length of experience, as well as Health Care Support Workers, Nurse Associates and Nursing Apprentices with three years of experience in a nurse-supervised role, can apply for a grant.

You don’t have to be a member of the Royal College of Nursing to qualify for a grant.
