About the area

The Great Notley Country Park is run by Essex County Council and is owned by Braintree District Council. It has a huge range of habitats including amenity grassland, meadow areas, lakes, ponds, an extensive ditch network and hedgerows. It also contains a huge adventure play area and sports facilities. For more information or if you would like to arrange a visit please contact the rangers at the Country Park direct. Cuckoo Wood is an important area of woodland that is owned by Braintree District Council. There are a number of locally rare species found in Cuckoo Wood and it is also a very good habitat for fungi due to the amount of dead wood found within the woodland, for these reasons Cuckoo Wood is not open to the public and is instead used as a secure educational resource. The woodland is therefore only accessible with a member of Landscape Services team. Please contact Landscape Services for enquiries about Cuckoo Wood as we are happy to open the woodland for small school groups to use for education purposes and guided walks.
