Last chance for residents to have their say on draft healthy housing strategy

Braintree district residents are reminded that they have one week to have their say on a five-year plan to consider the district’s housing priorities.

Braintree District Council is developing its new Healthy Housing Strategy 2023-2028, a document designed to work with our partners and residents to consider and shape a response to the housing need in the district.

The strategy will work alongside the Local Plan to guide the council’s partnership approach to the delivery of more high quality, affordable and safe homes, making improvements to existing houses, as well as working to improve access to housing for renters and working proactively to tackle empty homes.

Councillor Kevin Bowers, Cabinet Member for Housing, Assets & Skills at Braintree District Council, said: “Everyone is affected by housing and all our residents deserve to live in a safe, stable and comfortable home, which is even more important given the economic and housing challenges that have arisen since the pandemic.

“We want to work more closely with our partners, such as housing associations and landlords and align with our Local Plan, to enable housing that meet the needs of all our residents so we can create resilient communities, with our residents health and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

“We want to hear from as many residents and organisations as possible to understand their housing needs, challenges and opportunities to help shape our new strategy. We really value your views on our plans so please use this opportunity to have your say and make your voice heard.”

The consultation is open until 5pm on Tuesday 7 February 2023 and people can submit their views online at www.braintree.gov.uk/housingstrategy.

People who are unable to complete the online form can email housingstrategy@braintree.gov.uk or visit the council offices at Causeway House in Braintree.

Responses to the consultation will be considered as part of the final strategy by councillors in March 2023. If approved, the draft strategy will be accompanied by a detailed action plan that will be reviewed and updated annually.
