Last chance for people to shape the future of the Braintree district

Residents are being reminded they have until 1 September to have their say on what Braintree District Council’s priorities should be over the next four years to shape the future of the Braintree

Braintree District Council is developing its new Corporate Strategy for 2024-2028, which helps shape local priorities and will underpin decision-making over the next four years.

Residents are being asked for their views on how they feel about living and/or working in the Braintree district and what is most important to them, as well as what their main priorities are around housing and infrastructure, the economy, health and wellbeing services, the community and the local environment.

Over the past 10 years Braintree District Council has achieved around £10m of savings and additional income to meet rising costs and demands for services and adjust to lower government funding. The council continues to face significant financial challenges and needs to save another £2m over the next four years and is asking for people’s views on ways they think it can save money or generate income.

Councillor Graham Butland, Leader of Braintree District Council, said: “Listening to the views and concerns of our local communities is vitally important in ensuring we get our priorities right and address the issues and concerns which have the most impact on our residents and businesses.

“Whilst we have been ahead of the game in ensuring financial sustainability, tough budget choices are on the horizon and we want residents views on how they think we should be saving money and generating income so we can continue to invest in frontline services.

“If you haven’t already, please do engage and take part in this survey to help shape the future of your district.”

Residents, businesses and partners can submit their views online at www.braintree.gov.uk/shapingyourdistrict

To request a paper version of the form, people can call 01376 552525 or visiting the council offices at Causeway House in Braintree.

Responses to the survey will be considered as part of the final strategy, set to go to a Full Council meeting for approval in 2024.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Friday 1 September 2023.
