Braintree District Council is set to embark on a transformative journey to upgrade three of its local skateparks situated in Braintree, Halstead, and Witham, commencing firstly at Ramsey Road.

In 2022, an extensive public consultation was conducted, inviting input from local residents and skatepark users to gather insights and suggestions for enhancing their recreational spaces. The invaluable feedback received during this process played a pivotal role in shaping the envisioned improvements for these parks.

Following a meticulous tender process, Braintree District Council entrusted the design and construction contract to Bendcrete Skateparks, a renowned entity with over 24 years of expertise in crafting skateparks nationwide, having constructed numerous acclaimed parks across the country.

The forthcoming renovation of Ramsey Road skatepark will introduce a revamped layout catering to a diverse range of users, regardless of their skill levels or preferred wheel types. The redesigned park will feature ramps of varying heights, accommodating both novice and seasoned riders alike.

Furthermore, the surrounding park area will undergo enhancements to provide new and accessible amenities for young children, alongside the inclusion of hammocks for older youths. Additionally, a selection of outdoor gym equipment will be installed to further enrich the recreational experience.

Councillor Gabrielle Spray, Cabinet Member for Planning at Braintree District Council, said: “This marks an exciting beginning to our efforts in revitalizing and modernizing our existing facilities. We extend our gratitude to all those who actively participated in the consultation process, shaping the future of these recreational hubs.”

The commencement of renovations at Ramsey Road skatepark is scheduled for May 20th, 2024, during which time the area will be temporarily cordoned off for construction activities. Informative banners will be displayed on-site to notify the public of the temporary closure.

Anticipated to span approximately 40 days, the renovation process will entail the removal of existing infrastructure and the installation of cutting-edge design elements.

Braintree District Council would like to thank visitors to the park for their patience whilst the improvements are undertaken.
