Braintree District Council has awarded 21 successful applicants a share of their Health and Wellbeing 2023/24 Panel grant.

Braintree District Council has awarded 21 successful applicants a share of their Health and Wellbeing 2023/24 Panel grant. A total of £21,155 was awarded to charities, community groups and local organisations, who submitted their plans to improve the health and wellbeing of people in the district.

The Health and Wellbeing Panel Grant is intended for organisations and partners to help improve the health and wellbeing of residents in our communities as a whole, whilst targeting areas of health inequalities to enable residents to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. This grant was funded by Essex County Council.

Projects were required to target the Braintree Districts Health and Wellbeing priorities: tackling obesity, increasing activity, addressing frailty and improving mental health and wellbeing.

Successful applicants included Grow with the Flow, who plan to deliver a six week community led programme which aims to help boost young women’s confidence and improve their mental health.

Another successful applicant was the Empire Theatre in Halstead who is running a dementia friendly cinema, helping those living with dementia and their families to have the cinema experience.

The Witham Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade Association plans to deliver The Hunger Project for children and young people during the February holidays – a holiday programme incorporating physical activity, a hot meal and cooking lessons.

Councillor Lynette Bowers-Flint, Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Wellbeing at Braintree District Council said: “We are delighted to have received such a wealth of varied and worthy applications.

“All the organisations will make a huge difference in their local community and hopefully improve the health and wellbeing of the people who use them.

“We are committed to working with local partners to support the health and wellbeing of our residents.”
