Notice of Election - General Election 2024

Parliamentary Election for Witham

  1. An Election is to be held of One Member of Parliament for Witham Constituency.
  2. Forms of nomination for Parliamentary Elections may be obtained at Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9HB from the Acting Returning Officer or downloaded from www.braintree.gov.uk. The Acting Returning Officer will, at the request of an elector for any electoral area prepare a nomination paper for signature.
  3. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Acting Returning Officer, Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9HB on any day after the date of this notice between the hours of 10am and 4pm but no later than 4pm on Friday, 7 June 2024.
  4. The required deposit may be made by the deposit of any legal tender
  5. If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, 4 July 2024.
  6. The last day to submit an application to be included on the electoral register to be used at this election is 12 midnight on Tuesday 18 June 2024. Applications can be made online www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
  7. For electors voting in polling stations there is a legal requirement to take a prescribed form of photographic identification to vote. A full list of the prescribed forms of photographic identification is available on the Colchester City Council website. For those who require a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector Document to meet the requirement for photographic identification, applications can be made at www.voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk
  8. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9HB by 5pm on Wednesday, 19 June 2024. Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote
  9. New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9HB by 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June 2024. Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote
  10. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Causeway House, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9HB by 5pm on Thursday, 4 July 2024. The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June 2024. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.
